About Suttons Bay
Omena Cut Flowers is located in 7 miles north of Suttons Bay on M-22, the same Michigan highway which travels around the entire Leelanau Peninsula.

Suttons Bay is located about 15 miles (about 20 minutes if traveling the speed limit!) north of Traverse City on M-22.

Suttons Bay is a lovely year 'round village surrounded to the east by the bay, and snuggged in under the hills along the shore.

The downtown main street business district is lined with shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, a movie theatre and a few antique and resale shops. And a very interesting bookstore down by the bay in the lower level of the Millside Building - Known Books of course!

Proven Perennials for Sale for $3.75 each

Dug last fall, over-wintered, great cut flowers from my divisions in gallon-size pots. Comparable plants sold at local nurseries and retailers for $7 each or more. Michigan Dept. of Agriculture inspected and approved perennials. Quantities are limited: email me at faught3@aol.com to reserve your plants now-I will set them aside until you can pick them up. Success guaranteed-if plants don't thrive, I will happily replace them.

_Shasta daisies: late June bloomers, 3 to 4 feet tall, classic daisies on sturdy stems last forever in the garden and in the vase, easy to grow in sun or part shade. An indispensable perennial in any garden. What is more summery than a bouquet of daisies? You'll have enough to pick a big bouquet, and still have a fine show in the garden.

_White phlox "David." Mildew resistant, 3 to 4 feet tall, big, puffy white August blooms, does well in full sun or part shade. Great for back of the border. Fragrant blooms fill your house with pleasant scent.

_Lavender phlox. These big, showy clusters of blooms make a great August show in any garden. Great for back of the border. Grows easily, and will send out new shoots you can divide later to spread the wealth. Likes either full sun or part shade. Fragrant blooms a plus.

_Blue Scabiosa "pincushion flower," 2 feet tall, July bloomer, likes full sun. Nice compact habit, unusual flower. Perfect for front of the border.

_Rudbeckia "Goldstrum," or better known as black-eyed Susans. August bloomer, 3 to 3 feet tall, does great in full sun or part shade. Prolific spreader, a native plant that grows easily and provides an extended show in your late summer garden.

_Bearded Iris, blue or peach (who knows which you'll get but they are both gorgeous.) Generously sized divisions. Late June bloomer; each flower a work of art in itself.

_Pink Monarda, or bee balm. Lovely lemony scented leaves, blooms in July, 3 to 4 feet tall, loves full sun or part shade. The pink blossoms look like a spray of miniature fireworks. Prolific spreader but easily contained with shallow roots.

_Purple coneflower. Butterflies love it, good native plant needs little care. 2 feet tall, blooms in August. Loves full sun.

_Tansy. This 5 foot tall plant is vigorous and spreads easily. It produces clusters of flat headed, button like flowers on ferny foliage. I use both the cheery yellow clusters and deep green foliage as bouquet filler. This is a great plant for hiding a chain link fence or to provide a screen. Blooms in mid August, providing welcome color in the garden.

_Yellow yarrow, "Moonbeam." Lovely silver-green foliage, compact habit, 2-3 feet tall, blooms late June; long lasting flowers provide constant color for a month or more. Likes full sun.

_Yellow yarrow, tall. Darker green foliage, 3-4 feet tall. Great for the back of the border. Blooms in July; long lasting flowers like full sun.

_Pink heuchera, "coral bells." Delicate, bell shaped flowers bloom in July. Great edger at 12 to 18 inches tall. Likes full sun, compact habit. Blooms for 6 to 8 weeks-hummingbirds love the flowers.

_Blue Sea Holly, (Eryngium) blooms in July. True-blue, thimble-shaped spiky blooms on stems that can reach 3 to 4 feet in height. Must have full sun. Long bloom period. Very unusual look is a garden standout. Drought resistant.

_Blue Catmint blooms early in June. Spikes top compact, mounded plant with lacy, silvery foliage. 2 feet tall, loves full sun.

_Lamb's Ear; named so for its soft, fuzzy leaf. Also features lavender spikes that look great with peonies. Great edging plant or also good for groundcover. Loves full sun.

_Sedum Autumn Joy. Blooms in fall, lovely succulent leaves provide nice foliage all summer. 2 ft tall. Flat topped rosy hued blooms. This is a well-behaved plant that is easy to grow and does not spread.

_Alma Potschke Aster. The last thing to bloom for the season and well worth the wait. This September bloomer features 3 foot tall magenta clusters of asters that are an amazing last show of summer. Loves both full sun or part shade.

_Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla). The chartreuse color of the tiny sprays of flowers are great for contrasting in the garden. Rounded silvery green leaves are covered in soft down and are beautiful particularly as they catch raindrops and hold them like diamonds in the center of the leaf. Blooms in late June; equally stunning in bouquets as filler, or on its own as a single statement. Loves full sun or partial shade.

_Pink Astilbe. Blooms in june, feathery plumes about 2 feet tall. Good in shade or sun but prefers part shade. Also a great plant for woodland areas.

_Russion sage (Perovskia). Blooms mid summer, 3 to 5 feet tall. Loves full sun. Light colored lacy foliage, deep blue delicate flowers. Airy, whimsical-great for back of the border.

_Veronica. Long lasting bluish-purple spiky flowers with glossy green foliage. Blooms in sun or partial shade in July, about 3 feet tall. This is a indispensable flower in my garden and bouquets, providing a unique shape and that hard-to-find deep blue color.

_Centranthus, Jupiter's Beard blooms in June; deep rosy pink clusters on long stems about 3 feet tall. Loves full sun. Great for mid section of the border.

_Lavender. Silvery-green fragrant foliage, deep purple flowers, 18 inches to 2 feet tall. Great for the edge or just inside the border. Proven hardy for Michigan winters. Loves full sun only. I cut the stems at bloom time, hang them upside down to dry, and use the dried blossoms to make drawer sachets. Tied with a pretty purple ribbon, a bundle of fresh lavender makes a great gift too.

_Japanese anemones. Delicate blossoms on tall strong stems bloom in September. Lavender colored flower shape resembles a dogwood blossom. Does well in full sun or partial shade.

_Malva. This lavender flower grows up to 4 feet tall with a profusion of blossom- covered stalks. It reseeds readily and is easy to grow and care for. It can become invasive, but seedlings can be pulled out easily to share with friends. Great cut flower, grows easily in sun or part shade. I keep it in one isolated bed where it makes a stunning display in mid July.

_Heliopsis. A north American native known as false sunflower. Large, daisy like brassy yellow heads with long stems that make them superior cut flowers. Tolerant of drought and poor soil, blooms in August. 4 feet tall, likes full sun.
